HJSC secures £37 million maintenance contracts
South Korean shipbuilder HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) has won two maintenance contracts together worth approximately £37 million to maintain the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy’s Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship and its high-speed landing hovercrafts.
As per a recent press statement from the multinational shipbuilder, it has agreed a KRW 42.3 billion (roughly £23.3 million) deal to service the ROK Navy’s large transport ship (LPH-I) as well as a KRW 25.4 billion (about £14 million) contract to perform maintenance works on its fleet of high-speed landing craft (LSF-II).
Unlike routine maintenance carried out at bases, the depot works will involve disassembling, inspecting, and repairing key equipment and components of the vessels to ensure their weapon systems and performance are ready for operations.
HJSC was previously responsible not only for designing and constructing the Dokdo, but also for carrying out a performance upgrade contract in 2022.
CEO of HJSC Yoo Sang-cheol commented, “Our technical expertise, built over more than 50 years of shipbuilding and depot maintenance as a maritime defense company, was key to securing this contract.”
He added: “We will carry out this depot maintenance mission flawlessly to enhance the operational capabilities of the ROK Navy, and we will continue to boost our competitiveness to make strides in the international MRO market.”
