HJSC To Build Four Extra Patrol Boats For South Korean Navy
HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) has secured a contract to build another four new high-speed patrol boats for the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy.
The South Korean shipbuilder has agreed a deal with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) worth KRW 266.3 billion (about £146 million) to build the Geomdoksuri-B Batch-II vessels, which will replace the ROK Navy’s Chamsuri-class patrol boats.
HJSC has previously delivered 16 patrol vessels based on the design of its Batch I predecessor, and had agreed a deal to build eight of the Batch-II ships for the ROK Navy at the end of last year.
The new high-speed boats come equipped with updated combat capabilities, and anti-missile decoy systems. They will be tasked with coastal defence operations and rapid-response missions guarding the Northern Limit Line.
During the 2024 calendar year HJSC has won a series of other orders including the construction of a Coast Guard patrol vessel, performance upgrades to 18 ROK Navy fast attack craft, and depot maintenance projects for the ROK Navy’s Dokdo and high-speed landing craft.
Chief Executive Officer of HJSC Yoo Sang-cheol commented: “Thanks to our unrivaled technological expertise, we have achieved success in various projects, including the construction, performance upgrades, and depot maintenance of the latest vessels for both the ROK Navy and the Korea Coast Guard.
“With pride and a sense of responsibility as a national maritime defense company, we will complete our assigned missions flawlessly and contribute to strengthening maritime defence capabilities.”
