Havelsan Signs CMS Contract With Chilean Navy
)
Turkish defence firm Havelsan has signed a deal to upgrade two Chilean Navy frigates with its Advent combat management system.
The system, the first specifically developed for Turkish naval vessels, was initially deployed on the corvette TCG Kinaliada; the Advent CMS is now being used by eight other countries.
Under the terms of the deal signed on March 27, the Advent CMS will be fitted to the Chilean Navy’s two multi-purpose frigates, CNS Almirante Blanco Encalada and CNS Almirante Riveros, across the next four years, as per a recent Havelsan press statement.
The frigates were built by the Damen Naval Group in Vlissingen and operated by Royal Netherlands Navy in the 1990s before being decommissioned and sold to Chile in the mid-2000s. They have a maximum speed of 29 knots, carry SeaSparrow missiles and Mk46 torpedoes, and are usually embarked with Lynx helicopters.
The Havelsan statement noted: “The system encompasses all operational processes including threat evaluation, decision support, target detection, and weapon and sensor control, offering commanders enhanced situational awareness and operational effectiveness.
“With its user-friendly interfaces, high integration capacity, and indigenous software infrastructure, Advent delivers top-level performance in security, agility, and mission capability.”
