Greek Special Operations Forces (SOF) fighters have teamed up with the Italian Navy to practice multilateral mission capabilities during Exercise Dynamic Manta 2025, which wraps up today (Friday).

This year’s three-week iteration of the multinational NATO exercise, which began at the end of February, represents the largest submarine exercise yet staged in the Mediterranean Sea. It is run by Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) and this year Italy has been the host nation.

Another thing that has made this year’s Dynamic Manta special was that it involved practice missions with SOF for only the third time in the exercise’s 12-year history.

As per a social media post, in the mission pictured, Greek SOF were carried  towards shore by an Italian submarine, before stealthily disembarking and making their way ashore by small boat, returning to board a Greek navy surface ship.

Dynamic Manta 2025According to MARCOM, ships, submarines and planes from 11 different countries have been taking part in Dynamic Manta 2025: alongside the host nation Italy, assets from the U.K., the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey have also been participating.

NATO’s current Commander of Submarines U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Bret Grabbe commented: “Exercises like Dynamic Manta help NATO maintain the edge when it comes to anti-submarine warfare.”

“By practising coordinated operations against both conventional and advanced undersea threats, NATO continues to demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding the strategic waterways that connect member states.”
