)
A new USV platform developed by Ghostworks Marine for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions has now also been kitted out with sonar systems supplied by Ultra Maritime.
The Medusa (M90T) is a 90-foot surface vessel for up to 15 crew with a flatbed hull and waterjet propulsion system, designed for a variety of missions including ISR, special ops, uncrewed MCM, and SAR. It comes in enclosed and open-stern variants.
As per a recent press statement, the Medusa can now accommodate Ultra Maritime's 20-foot containerised autonomous ASW Mission Pod and towed sonar array. It can also carry Ghostworks' USVs and Ultra Maritime sonobuoys.
Ultra Maritime’s Mark Kenny, Senior Vice President of Business Development, said Medusa "offers ready integration and can carry the Mission Pod alongside a family of vessels and drones, adding layers of detection and data collection capabilities.
“This enables us to provide our customers with a complete turnkey solution at a fraction of the cost of larger capital ASW ships."
Ghostworks’ Patrick Coughlin, Executive Vice President of Business Development, elaborated: "The primary operational unit will be the Ghostworks Marine Medusa open-stern variant (M90T), equipped with Ultra Maritime's containerized ASW package.
“These vessels will integrate data from Ultra Maritime's towed array, sonobuoy, and other ISR/ASW sources within their fire control systems to track and potentially engage submerged targets.
“Additional Medusa vessels can deploy Ghostworks' USVs, which can be… [fitted] out with tethered octocopters or balloons that serve as receivers for Ultra Maritime sonobuoy data… The M90 vessels manage all assets, allowing them to refuel and reload the USVs at sea."
