American defence contractor L3Harris Technologies has secured a deal worth up to $999 million to supply its radios to a variety of U.S. Navy air, ground and maritime platforms.

As per a recent company press statement L3Harris will install Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS) terminals over a five-year timespan. The contract is on an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) basis and will provide U.S. and coalition forces with resilient Link 16-compatible communications technology.

Link 16 is an interoperable multi-domain network that provides communications, Situational Awareness (SA), Command and Control (C2) and targeting information to forces around the world which L3Harris acquired in early 2023. The firm says it is also currently working to extend Link 16's space-based capabilities.

“The current threat environment requires the United States and its coalition partners collaborating together, in real time, to stamp out adversarial aggression near ally and partner sovereign borders,” said Christopher E. Kubasik, Chair and CEO, L3Harris. “Our resilient technology ensures all users in these coalitions know where friendly forces are and what they are doing to inform a common operating picture and achieve mission success.”
