Rauma Marine Constructions has begun construction of a second Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette. Once it sails in the Baltic Sea, the ship will be able to target surface ships, submarines, and lay naval mines. The corvette will also be able to dodge or destroy enemy missiles with decoys and surface-to-air missiles.

The ship will prove to be a worthy boost to Finland's Navy as it currently lacks the firepower of larger conventional ships, which are a mainstay of the Royal Navy. Most of Finland’s Navy consists of smaller fast-attack boats, minelayers, and minesweepers. Finland shares a 1,343-kilometre-long border with Russia and has previously devoted most of its defence budget to its land forces.
