Finland to acquire more Jurmo-class landing craft
Finnish Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Defence Forces to order 17 Finnish Jurmo-class landing craft with spare parts.
The mobility of coastal troops will be maintained and developed until the end of the 2030s by the new Jurmos.
The landing craft will be delivered by Marine Alutech Oy AB. The overall value of the procurement, without value added tax, is EUR 25.5 million, and the domestic employment effect will be about 110 person-years.
Jurmo-class landind craft is based on the Watercraft 12 design developed by Marine Alutech. According to company, the water jet system gives the boat excellent manoeuvrability and can stop almost within one boat’s length from full ahead. An essential advantage in coastal use is that the bottom of the boat is perfectly smooth, enabling the boat to operate in very shallow waters safely.
There are 20 damped seats with seat belts on the fore deck and the deck is sheltered with a light composite cover. Hatches on the cover and a hydraulically operated bow ramp ensure fast unloading and loading of cargo and personnel.
The equipment includes the latest marine electronics and communications systems. Low noise level (under 75 dBA) and ergonomically placed instruments help the skipper to handle and operate the boat safely and comfortably despite rugged military use. For military and patrol purposes the boat can be equipped with two 12.7 mm machine guns.
