Damen Marine Components (DMC), part of the wider Damen Shipyards Group, is supplying eight rudders destined for the four Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigates being built for the Belgian and Dutch Navies.
As per a recent press statement, DMC will design, engineer, and produce the two rudders for each of the four new vessels, which are scheduled to replace the M-Frigate class vessels from 2029 onwards.
The new ships, whose primary function will be monitoring and repelling submarines, are currently being built and outfitted at Damen Naval shipyards in Romania and the Netherlands.
As per the DMC statement, the rudders are designed both to withstand severe shock loads and minimise the vessels’ acoustic signatures.
DMS sales manager Ronald Beekhof commented: “All of us at DMC are proud to be able to contribute to these ultra-modern vessels.”
He continued: “Being part of this high-profile Damen Naval project — together with many other Dutch suppliers — means that we can truly show our capacity to deliver equipment and systems fit for top-tier vessels.”
Damen Marine Components (DMC) designs and manufactures a range of systems key for propulsion, manoeuvring and performance, specialising in nozzles, winches, controls, and steering and rudder systems.
It supplies a range of ships from inland waterway and offshore boats to ocean-going and naval vessels, and superyachts.
